Having many other community programs running, team Candy Club wanted to start a program where waste can be converted into green. Long discussions brought us to a conclusion; where we realized the amount of ‘Dates’ which are consumed in the Holy Month of Ramadan throughout Karachi and how many trees can be grown out of those seeds which are discarded.
We started it off as a pilot project two years back within the team & friends; collected around 150-200 date seeds, which is not even 1% what is discarded.
Our pre-schoolers planted those seeds and waited for them to sprout; by the grace of God 90% of those seeds sprouted and now we will be distributing them to our community parents of Candy Club Pre-School.
We plan to take this initiative forward with a vision of collecting 100k seeds in the coming Ramadan.
If every individual does this at their own, imagine 10 million or more small date palm saplings all over Karachi in a year.
