RPA Steps Up Nuclear Awareness Drive

The Radiation Protection Authority –RPA- has engaged the Ministry of Information and Media in a bid to strengthen public awareness and understanding of nuclear energy regulation in ZAMBIA.
RPA Executive Director BOSTER SIWILA says closer engagement with the media will help ensure the public receives accurate and relevant information on how nuclear energy is regulated.
Dr. SIWILA says the Authority has launched a sensitisation programme targeting policymakers and controlling officers to improve understanding of the regulatory framework and the country’s plans to introduce nuclear energy.
He was speaking during a courtesy call on Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA in Lusaka.
Mr. KAWANA said nuclear science and technology have been identified as important tools within ZAMBIA’s wider agenda for energy diversification and socio-economic development.
He said Government sees the establishment of a strong and well-coordinated national nuclear infrastructure as critical to the programme’s success.
