Learn five fascinating facts about Peregrine Falcons!
1) The name Peregrine comes from the Latin word “peregrinus” which means “to wander.”
2) The male falcon brings "gifts" of food to lure its mate to potential nesting sites. He also provides most of the food to the nest while the female is incubating eggs.
3) Peregrine falcons don’t build nests out of sticks. They lie down and scrape out nests located on ledges and crevices of cliffs or buildings.
4) Falcons display an interesting courtship ritual while selecting a nest. The male brings the female to a site and they bow down and bob from side to side with a heat-warming "echupping" sound
5) Chicks eat an incredible amount of food. At just three weeks old, falcon chicks are ten times their size at birth.
