(The National Park De Hoge Veluwe) (Hoge Veluwe for short) is a nature park in the Netherlands, Gelderland province. Typical for De Hoge Veluwe is an alternating distribution of forest and heather areas. There are also large sandy lawns in the north of the nature park. In the west there is still a remnant of juniper. With over 500,000 visitors annually, De Hoge Veluwe is one of the most popular heathlands in Central Europe. [1] Although the nature park offers breeding areas for stonechats and goat milkers, due to the large number of visitors, the habitat conditions are not very suitable for birds that are sensitive to disturbance.

The national park is located in the Veluwe forest northwest of Arnhem, between Ede and Apeldoorn. The park is easily accessible from these cities by car and bus. The park has a total area of about 54.5 km². It consists of forest (mainly conifers), dunes and heather. Many protected plants and animals live there, including red deer and wild boar. The main entrance with the visitor center is at the village of Otterlo (municipality of Ede). Under the visitor center is the Museonder, a museum for underground life that is also interesting for children. After paying the entrance fee, visitors can explore the park with 43 kilometers of cycle paths and 1,800 rental bicycles.

The best way to get to know the nature of the Hoge Veluwe, however, is on a safari. The forest ranger takes you on a four-hour hike and shows you all the special places in the park. A night tour, where you spend the night under the stars, is also possible.

The Kröller-Müller Museum is the cultural highlight of the Hoge Veluwe. This world-famous museum is hidden deep in the woods, with the world's largest private collection of Van Gogh's paintings and one of the most beautiful sculpture gardens in Europe. Other sights are the Sint Hubertus hunting lodge and the Museonder in the visitor center.
