The Flyer is the award-winning newsmagazine produced by students in The Flyer class at Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio. The website was launched in July 2009, but The Flyer newsmagazine in printed form has been in existence since the mid-1980s, when Fairmont East and Fairmont West combined to form Fairmont High School.

The purpose of this site is to inform and entertain students, staff, parents and others in the community. We strive to make our site the first one people think of when they want to know what’s going on at Fairmont and how today’s teens feel about many of the local, state, nation and world issues.
Please spend some time poking around our site to see what we have to offer. We are continuing to grow and improve this site, and we welcome your suggestions!

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The Flyer is to inform and entertain the students and staff of Fairmont High School and to provide a voice for the student body, while allowing staff members to polish their communication and organization skills as they produce a journalistically sound newsmagazine.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of The Flyer class are:
To improve students’ writing and communication skills.
To improve students’ critical thinking skills.
To refine or develop students’ visual skills in photography, typography, and design.
To practice journalism according to First Amendment rights.
To adhere to the canons of good journalism: truth, honesty, and integrity.
To teach the differences and similarities between scholastic writing and journalistic writing.
To encourage the development of students’ skills in time management and teamwork.
To produce a publication that informs and entertains the student body and staff.
To persuade with fact-based editorials that offer practical solutions.
To serve as a public forum for expression by Fairmont students and staff.
To be financially solvent.
