Northern Cape's Provincial economy increased from an estimated R119 billion in 2019 to almost R148 billion since 2023. Households that had no access to piped water in the Northern Cape province declined from 19,7 percent to 8,7 percent in 2022. With households that have access to electricity as a main source of lighting also increasing to 92,5 percent in 2022. That is according to the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, who presented his State of the Province Address last month. In a province that has also seen a worrying number of teenage pregnancies, Saul also announced that an inter-departmental task team has been formed to tackle teenage pregnancy, Gender Based Violence and Femicide, and substance abuse.
