Scotland’s rivers are steeped in centuries of fishing tradition—tweed jackets, Spey rods, and the pursuit of Atlantic salmon. But as salmon numbers have declined, anglers have begun turning their attention to thriving trout populations sustained by prolific hatches. Despite the opportunity, local approaches have remained rooted in old-world methods: walking the banks, casting from shore, and relying on canoes for limited access. The result is that much of the rivers’ true potential has remained out of reach.

American Simms Pro Rick Watson is changing that. Drawing on his western trout background, he’s introduced the idea of floating these historic waters in rafts—an unheard-of tactic in Europe. With special permissions secured, Rick and his clients are the first to drift Scotland’s famous trout rivers from top to bottom, actively fishing as they go. The project blends exploration with tradition, offering locals and ghillies a fresh perspective on waters they’ve fished for decades. From blanket hatches and streamer bites to rafts trailered through sheep fields - Destination Scotland has it all.
