Irving Berlin wrote the song Who ? for a Music Box Revue in 1925.
He worked with the Brox Sisters and wrote songs specifically for them.
The Brox Sisters were one of the marquee “specialty” acts in Irving Berlin's Revues. They sang marvelous close harmony and did comedy bits as well.
I have taken the original recording and isolated their vocals.
What you see on the screen is the Melodyne Editor displaying all the pitches occurring at any given time.
I feel it's an interesting way to perceive harmonic relationships.
You can see the voices move away or towards one another or stay the same as the others change.
A detail about the Melodyne Editor. :
You can ascertain the intonation of any given pitch ( or orange blob ) by how solidly it falls within the white or gray strip shown for that pitch name.
To the degree that it is above or below that pitch's line it is shown to be sharp or flat.
As you can see The Brox Sisters had lovely intonation.
If you want to see and hear a little flatness listen for the bottommost note in the chord at 0:59 on the word "Who" and see how she adjusts it immediately afterwards.
These days tools like this are used by producers to adjust pitches to whatever intonation they desire.
By the way :
Some creatively amusing 'sour' notes in here in line with the words.
i.e., "When he sang "What'll I Do?" off the Key ..." at 2:14
Enjoy !
