So I used the wrong kind of paint as well as the wrong kind of paper for making a stencil for this type of screen-printing application. The paper I chose was a left-over stock from my own collection of papers to see how it would perform. The paper is cardstock with one side glossy coated. I cut the stencil freehand and sandwiched it up underneath the silkscreen mesh using painters tape.
All was ready for an easy show-and-tell when I discovered my first attempt left NO design on the black paper. You can sense the disappointment in the way my hand falls down to the table, lol. Defeated and unsure as to why.
No worries I figured, and I quickly jumped into gear and tried to figure it out.
By all accounts, most videos teaching silkscreening techniques generally show the process using traditional silkscreening techniques with screens that are photo-emulsion printed yet I wanted to try the cheapest and easiest method and so I went with a DIY paper stencil.
Practice makes perfect and so the plan is to continue exploring techniques and materials and so we shall see how different materials work together to create unique prints.
Thanks for watching!
