Konyak Tribe HEAD HUNTING (Nagalayand) Hornbill Festival
LOCATION – KISAMA VILLAGE, Nagaland Hunting Tradition Historically, hunting and warfare have been central to the Naga way of life and are closely linked to their dwelling place called Morung. Beheading the chief of another group and bringing his head back to one's own group. This meant achieving victory over another community. That is, headhunting: In the past, it was an important part of some Naga cultures, where the hunted heads were displayed as symbols of bravery. Hunting a tiger or a specific bird is considered a symbol of courage and bravery. Excellent examples of this can be seen in the carvings depicting the theme of headhunting. Facial Tattoos: In some tribes, like the Konyak, tattooing the image of an enemy's head on the body was a mark of honor. Headhunting: In the olden days, there was a custom of wearing symbols of the heads hunted as trophies around the neck, and this practice continues even today. Modernization: The practice of headhunting has largely been abandoned.
