Ontario Motor Speedway Lost Race Track in California USA.
The Ontario Motor Speedway was a copy of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Therefore it was nicknamed “The Indianapolis of the West”.
However, there were a few differences with the original Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Ontario Motor Speedway was a little wider, and the two short straights between Turns 1 and 2, and between 3 and 4 were banked. That made the Ontario Motor Speedway even faster than the original.
Inside the oval was also a road course, which made the track suitable for different kinds of motorsport.
The Ontario Motor Speedway opened in August 1970 and hosted several open wheel races and stockcar races.
The last race on the Ontario Motor Speedway was in December 1980. After that, the track closed because of Financial trouble. The track was purchased for real estate development and demolished in 1981.
On an empty field you can still recognize the embankment of Turn 3. Sad enough, that's all what left of the Ontario Motor Speedway!
