Anthony Fokker | A Dream Fulfilled

Описание: Dutch aviations' greatest pioneer, Anthony Fokker, would realise and fulfil a dream that would see his company's name become one the most significant of the 20th Century. Building and testing his own designs shortly after leaving school, he would eventually find financial success in Germany - a fact that would have far reaching consequences with the outbreak of World War One. Fokker would produce some of the finest German fighter aircraft of the war, including the pioneering Eindecker series with the all important forward firing synchronised machine gun, the D.VII with its innovative cantilever wing design, and one of the most famous combat aircraft of all time: The Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker (Triplane), which equipped many of the German Jastas through 1917-18 including those commanded by Manfred von Richthofen, the legendary Red Baron.

Despite widespread opposition and stigma against him after the war, his company would come to triumph in the new found world of commercial passenger aircraft and achieved worldwide success. His premature death in 1939 would not be the end of the company, however, with its military aircraft seeing service with several air forces during the Second World War. Despite suffering heavy damage to their factories from bombing, Fokker were able to again rebuild after the war and find success in the commercial market before ultimately going bankrupt in the 1990s. Nevertheless the name Fokker continues into the 21st Century.
