A quick evolution of the US soldier from 1900 to today. This is a massive one. We are looking at the transition of the United States from a regional power to a global superpower, and the uniforms really tell that story. We start right at the turn of the century with the Philippine-American War, a conflict often forgotten but crucial for the shift away from the "civil war style" blue to the khaki that would define the early 20th century.
From there we move to the "Doughboys" of World War I where you see the adoption of the iconic olive drab wool and the Brodie helmet. Then comes the classic GI of World War II, the "Greatest Generation," where the industrial might of America really shines through with the mass production of the M1 Garand and standardized web gear.
The Cold War era brings some of the most radical changes. You will see the shift to the jungle fatigues of Vietnam (and the M16 of course) and the eventual adoption of the famous M81 Woodland camo in the 80s. The modern era is honestly a bit chaotic visually. We go from the Chocolate Chip camo of the Gulf War to the digital UCP pattern (that grey pixelated one that nobody liked) and finally settle on the current OCP / Multicam which is arguably the most effective pattern today.
So just like my previous american videos, my main source was :
https://history.army.mil/ The center of military history in the US. Plenty of stuff to browse
For a lot of the rest I just looked stuff up online. This is not a very niche topic so it was simple to research.
Music Choice: I chose "Over There" for the track. It just felt right. This song captures that specific moment in 1917 when the US stepped onto the world stage and never really left. I honestly considered using "Fortunate Son" by CCR, but that pigeonholes the video too much into the Vietnam era vibe. I also thought about "The Army Goes Rolling Along", which is the official song and would have been safer, but "Over There" has that nostalgic, patriotic energy that fits the whole century better.
Images were made with Google Nano Banana Pro and then animated with Kling 2.5 Start/end frame for great visual results and good authenticity. The shorts I make are between 40s and 1min long. I tried to get all the weapon/uniform details as accurately portrayed as possible but there are always some creative liberties wherever things are less clear cut. Let me know if you find any glaring mistakes.
