What characterises ‘mastery’ in English? We share our experiences from the past four years of piloting a common Key Stage 2 English Mastery curriculum in 55 primary schools. We discuss the strategies used to reduce cognitive load, enhance accuracy, and ensure automaticity in teaching reading and writing to Key Stage 2 pupils.
