I went to one of my regular tog spots in Rhode Island again. After a late start, I arrived and started fishing around 12:00pm. Tide had been incoming for an hour or two by now.
The good thing about today is that the bite didnt take long at all to get going. I found my first tautog about 15-20 minutes after I started and then from there the bite really turned on big time. It was non stop at times.
As far as tackle, I was using a slider rig tied on by 50lb fluorocarbon leader. A 3oz egg sinker was used as well as a 3/0 Octopus hook. I probably should've been using a slightly larger hook (4/0) because the big tog you see caught in the video straightened the hook a little. Green crab was all I had today and it worked just fine. Probably went through 1qt in about 3 hours.
The rod is a custom 9'2" medium, or should I say was a 9'2", that I built myself recently. On my last outing, I broke it between the 1st and 2nd guides. Thats why if you notice carefully, the guide spacing between the 1st and 2nd guide is unusually short. The guys at Crafty One in Portsmoth, RI were good enough to help me out by giving me short piece of an old rod that I was able to turn into a sleeve. After the repairs were made, so far so good.
Reel is a Shimano Stradic spooled with 50lb braid. The combo works good for blackfish and stripers.
Well hopefully I'll have another couple videos to post soon. I recently had a 2 day Blackfish trip on Flippin Out Charters with Capt. BJ Silvia. I'm still going through hours of footage from both days, so the video should be up in a couple days. Until then, enjoy!
