For several months now we would hear violent noises from the washing machine during the spin cycle. Then the machine would throw an error "OFB", meaning Off Balance. We would have to re-arrange the clothes or other items and try to "balance" out the load so the spin cycle could continue. This did not happen with every load, but started happening more and more frequently over time. This is when I became suspicious that something was wrong.
I researched my particular make and model and the Off Balance code and there were several suggestions, including, the machine itself may not be level, and so on. The other suggestion was that the suspension rods needed to be replaced.
Most of the recent year washing machines use this suspension rod configuration to maintain the balance of the bowl during the wash and spin cycles. You should research your particular brand and model and look for the parts that make up the suspension.
My particular washing machine is a:
Maytag, model: MVWB765FW3
I purchased my specific parts, giving the model number, at www.appliancepartspros.com
https://www.appliancepartspros.com/wh...
Cost was $93.64
Appliance Parts Pro provided me with a schematic of the machine and the individual parts and finding the suspension rods was simple. They also have helpful videos for replacing various machine parts.
This video, although maybe a bit lengthy, shows you what I went through replacing the 4 rods. Once I got past the first rod, the remaining rods were much easier using a trick I discovered in another post.
Since replacing the rods we have done 3 + loads of laundry and no longer seem to have the issue with the spin cycle. Fingers crossed!
