"Young love don't always last forever
Wild horses can't keep us together
So what if you taste just like heaven, that don't make it right
Hot summer & cold watermelon
Your love stings like blood and a lemon
Why do you leave me with watercolor eyes...?"
General storyline: Logan & Rogue are in a rocky relationship and basically just kind of go back and forth hurting each other. Typical angsty/doomed romance video from me, I know :) What can I say, my videos are honestly digital fanfictions tbh lol.
My interpretation/ of the song/what I tried to express w/the video: I think it's about a relationship that is very one sided (like a lot of Lana songs.) This author is in love with this person, and they express that love with metaphoric descriptions, like describing their taste/kisses are "just like heaven" and that they are sweet like candy and warm like beaches. It's a very comforting feeling to be with that person; they're sweet, inviting, and warm (just like the beginning stages of falling in love) BUT then there's the juxtaposition where the love is described as "stinging like blood and a lemon" because this person likes playing mind games (breaking up w/the other just to piss them off) and just being petty; not reciprocating the love given or taking it seriously. There's also acknowledgement that the love won't last with "wild horses can't keep us together" That to me seems like no matter how intense, serious, or even passionate that the relationship has become, it will not last because of the lack of effort from the other person; even a band of charging, wild horses couldn't "push" or "force" them together. Meaning something almost physical still couldn't keep them together long term. The "hot summer & cold watermelon" line is great imagery, but I feel it also serves to represent the differences in their personalities. One is more warm or hot with passion/desire for this relationship, the other cold, uncaring, and indifferent. Of course, when she says watercolor eyes, I feel she is saying: why are you leaving me with tearful/crying eyes? Which Lana could have simplified and said, but no my girl is a true poet and the imagery and term of having "watercolor eyes" is such a beautiful way of saying "why do you make me cry"?
It seems like the author realizes they deserve more from the relationship though as the very simple but telling line of "that don't make it right" comes into play. Basically, saying that just because you are sweet, warm, and heavenly MOST of the time, it doesn't make it right that there are other times you're literally leaving me hurt and sobbing because of the lack full commitment and uncaring, cold demeanor.
This video was very hard to make. I love this song so so so much and I wanted to do it justice! So, it took a lot for me to be happy with it, but I think I achieved what I wanted to do with it. I did have to cut it up a bunch to make it fit.
