It is all the same: landing in a gusty crosswind, doing a loop in an aerobatic airplane or a short cross county for lunch. Maneuvering an airplane well and with confidence is about airmanship. Fundamental to airmanship skills is manipulation of the controls with pressure and focus on the sight picture. A pilot’s weakness in those two fundamentals of airmanship typically results in over-control, pilot induced instability. In this video Jim Alsip focuses on landing in a discussion about over-control.
