Description:
"In this POV street photography session, I take you onto the elevated platforms of Queensboro Plaza to show you exactly how to capture dramatic, high-contrast train photos in heavy snow."Queensboro Plaza is legendary for its intersecting subway lines, but during a blizzard, it transforms into one of the most atmospheric locations in New York City. In this POV street photography session, I take you out into the heavy snow to capture the 7 and N trains battling the elements.
I’ll walk you through my complete thought process on location: how I protect the Hasselblad X2D from freezing wet snow, the specific shutter speeds I use to freeze (or blur) the falling flakes, and how to find unique compositions on a crowded platform. We also explore some "hidden" angles of the station that most commuters miss.
Finally, we head back to the studio for a full editing breakdown. I show you how to rescue flat, low-contrast raw files using a combination of Photoshop and Topaz DeNoise to create gallery-quality prints.
In this video:
The Location: Why Queensboro Plaza is the best spot for snow trains
The Settings: Balancing shutter speed (1/60 vs 1/500) for falling snow
The Composition: Using leading lines and "forbidden" platform angles

"Snow makes everything look cinematic, but it’s a nightmare for autofocus! ❄️ When you shoot in these conditions, do you trust your AF or switch to manual focus like I did for the 'forbidden' angle shots? Let me know your strategy below!"
