Dr. Cecilio Pedro once supplied aluminum toothpaste tubes to Colgate and Unilever through his company, Aluminum Containers Inc. But when global brands switched to plastic tubes in 1985, his factory had to shut down.

Instead of walking away, he chose to start again. In 1988, he founded Lamoiyan Corporation, named after his grandmother, and introduced a new Filipino-made toothpaste that could stand proudly beside international brands.

That toothpaste is Hapee.

It was the first local brand to offer toothpaste in sachets, making oral care more affordable for every Filipino. Over time, the company expanded its line to include Kutitap, Gumtect, Licealiz, Dazz, and many more.

But what truly sets Lamoiyan apart is its heart. Around 30 percent of its workers are deaf. Dr. Pedro made sure they were not only hired, but respected. Staff are trained in sign language, and the company supports schools for the deaf across the country.
