Don't miss a visit to Goldfield Ghost Town in Apache Junction, Arizona! It’s like taking a step back in time to the days of the Wild West!
Apache Junction, Arizona is named for the junction of the Apache Trail and Old West Highway.
The historic ghost town of Goldfield was established back in the late 1800s. At that time, it boasted a boarding house, general store, blacksmith shop, brewery, meat market, a school house, and 3 saloons.
For a historic narrative on this famous mining town, take a ride on Arizona’s only narrow gauge train. A Plymouth diesel engine, built in 1963, pulls along a passenger car and a caboose all while the conductor shares stories of the town and its surrounding area.
For an aerial view of Goldfield and the nearby Superstition Mountains, take an adventurous journey on the Superstition Zipline!
There’s no shortage of things to do in Goldfield. Wander the main street, popping in and out of shops and the town’s remaining saloon, check out the Mystery Shack where gravity appears to defy logic, pan for gold, and go on a mine tour.
When you’ve had your fill at Goldfield, head a mile down the road to the Superstition Mountain Museum.
Besides the paid indoor museum which features many fascinating exhibits, including one on the Dutchman’s Lost Mine, there’s also a great outdoor space to explore, including model trains and this 1914 stamp mill that was used to extract gold and silver from ore.
The Superstition Mountain wilderness is a breathtaking region to explore and should definitely end up on your list of things to do in beautiful Arizona!
