James Varrick Armaah - I've learnt to trust in Jesus

Описание: My dearest friend and mentor John Kobina Nkaebi ("Uncle Ebo") passed away on 1 August 2025. His passing is a huge blow to the Ghanaian choral community in Amsterdam and far beyond, and I am deeply saddened by this loss. John was an excellent musician and konga player, but to me he was so much more: a true and very dear friend with a kind and humble spirit who always cheered me up and encouraged me. How I miss him! Gone too soon, but God knows best...

In loving memory of John I made this new take of "I've learnt to trust in Jesus" by James Varrick Armaah, which he sings so beautifully on one of my earlier recordings. John loved this song, which encourages us to put our trust in Jesus, no matter what happens in our lives.

Without John, there would have been no Kofi Marten. It was John who introduced me to Ghanaian choral music and helped me master the style. It was John who helped me get in touch with the great composers of Ghanaian choral music. It was John who encouraged me on my trips to Ghana in 2016 and 2018.

Without John, there also would have been no Ghachodam (association of Ghanaian choirs in Amsterdam). Together with the choir masters of the other Ghanaian choirs we organised succesfull concerts like An Evening with James Varrick Armaah and the Ghanaian Choral Music Festival.

Rest in the peace of your Creator my dearest Uncle Ebo. Thank you so much for everything you did for me. You will be sourly missed, but we will continue the good work you started and make you proud!
