U.S. Pauses New Student Visa Interviews In Social Media Vetting Push

Описание: US President Donald Trump's administration has ordered all of its consulates worldwide to stop new student visa interviews and exchange visitor visa applications, with the move being a part of a broader State Department plan to mandate social media vetting for all international students to study in America. According to an internal cable, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the department plans to issue updated guidance on social media vetting of student and exchange visitor applicants following a review and recommended consulates to pause the scheduling of such visa appointments. The move could seriously disrupt student visa processing and financially strain US universities that depend heavily on international enrolments. However, in a huge relief for several thousand students, the visas interviews already scheduled will go ahead. India Today Group’s Aishwarya Paliwal spoke to Professor Andrew Latham of the Macalester College in the US and journalist Daniel Block about the issue.
