Millerton Lake Part Deux!

Описание: A day hike on the "San Joaquin River Trail" with my buddy Buster! This was Busters first hike ever on the loose in the hills and he did great. The weather for early February was fantastic this day in the high 60s. We hiked 2 miles in and had lunch overlooking the river below. Then 2 leisurely miles back. Spoke "backpacking" to a nice couple from Visalia California for a few minutes on the way back and told them of some of the trails I knew in the area.

This trail starts at the end of Sky Harbor Drive off Friant road at the Millerton Lake State Recreation "South Finegold Day Use Area". The trail may be used by hikers, mountain bikes and horses. The first mile is a winding up hill hike with views of the lake and river. Once you've reached the top, it follows just below the ridge line above the river on the south side of the lake. The narrow single-track trail meanders along the ridge with great views of the river and hills. The 11 mile trail ends in the San Joaquin River Gorge area. Keep your eyes open during the winter months for Bald Eagles that overwinter at Millerton lake from Canada.
