Do we really fight how we train?
The boys talk about the old adage of “you fight like you train”. Meaning that if you “keep it playful” you’ll end up not being able to turn it on when you need to either for competition or for self defense.
Kroyler’s idea behind fighting like you train differs drastically from this antiquated saying. He has opinions on what it actually should mean and all the different modalities for training so you can fight....so to speak.
He beaks proper training into subcategories:
a. Knowledge
b. Technique
c. Experience
d. Ability
e. Physical Health
f. Mental Health
g. Mental Clarity
h. Mental Fortitude
i. Intensity
He breaks down why you need proficiency in each of them and how lacking in any one can be detrimental to your ability to fight or compete at the highest level.
Whether or not you have aspirations of becoming a world champion one day, these tips are a must for anyone who truly wants to maximize their time on the mats to get as good as one can as fast as possible (still gonna take time though people).
At the end of the day, the people who think of destroying themselves and others on the mat and in the gym because that’s what world beaters do, are sadly mistaken. All that does is hurt you and those around you, ensuring a short career if any at all.
Be smart about your training. You can ramp it up the more proficient you get when the chances of injury diminishes drastically. Make sure that you’re covering all your training bases, not just the “train hard to be hard” category.
