Exploring with the Model T at Chimney Rocks and old Missouri and North Arkansas RR. Shirley Ark.

Описание: Today we went to the Shirley Arkansas area to see the Chimney Rocks, and drive across the old Missouri and North Arkansas RR bridge. It is the last remaining bridge left in service and was built about 1908. The railroad was removed approx. 1946. The county road department added the concrete deck sometime in the 1980s to use it as a single lane automobile bridge. From Shirley to the end of the drivable part of the old right of way is about 5 to 6 miles. It ends at private property. There is about a 1/2 mile of the old railroad bed that was washed out in a flood in approx. 1982. It is possible to go about 25 miles northwest, to a point upstream from the washed-out area and come in from the other direction and drive another 4 or 5 miles of the old right of way. Maybe something for a later video. Chimney Rocks is a rock formation to the northwest of Shirley. It is down an unmaintained, very old county road. It was originally known as the "Fodder Stacks" named after the owner of the property in the early 1900s era. Sometime after the 1940s it became known as Chimney Rocks. It is an old scenic point of interest as far back as the early 1900s. I have seen old post cards from the 30s to 50s era of the rocks. They were still known as "Fodder Stacks" on the old post cards from then. Thanks for watching.
