Going on a tiger safari in India can be a daunting experience. It's a long, expensive trip to a foreign part of the world where everything from the culture to the food is different to what you might be used to. How do you decide where to go look for tigers and how would you even find them?

In June this year, I joined Indian wildlife presenter and film-maker, and professional safari guide, Suyash Keshari, in Kanha National Park. Suyash is the founder of Ameliya Safaris - a local safari company that specialises in putting together seamless and successful tigers safaris across India.

Going to Kanha National Park with an expert like Suyash was a game-changer, because not only did he and Ameliya Safaris ensure that the travelling to the park was a breeze, but they also knew exactly which safari lodge to book. We stayed at Bagh Villas - a luxurious jungle boutique camp with comfortable tented suites and excellent food!

Suyash and his team obviously knew the jungles of Kanha extremely well too, booking the best tourism zones for each safari and expertly tracking down tigers on every safari. When I appreciated most, was that we also looked for all the other creatures that call Kanha National Park home - deer, gaur, jackals, monkeys and a myriad birds. We even saw Indian wild dogs, locally known as dhole!

One of the many highlights of this tiger safari to Kanha National Park, was going on a bush walk within the bufferzone of the park, where we concentrated on the smaller things in the jungle like plants, fruits, birds and animal tracks and scat.
