1. Start off going to smaller events or break out groups at large events. This makes for a more familiar, intimate experience.
2. Go to meetups that are scheduled on a normal cadence (ex. Once a month or once a quarter). You'll start to recognize familiar faces which will give you a handful of people to start talking to as soon as you show up and make meeting new people after feel a bit more natural.
3. Introduce people to others. As you build relationships and meet people with diverse skills, try to match them with people who might need someone with those skills. When you do this you strengthen your network by helping others.
