Video captured on Monday (February 27) show the damage caused to buildings by strikes across the frontline city of Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region of Ukraine.

Local residents can be seen walking in streets past wrecked buildings as loud explosions and gunfight sounded in background.

Despite being scared, when asked why he is not evacuating from the town, local man struggled to answer.

“Until my home is intact, until I am not hurt, I will stay here,” he said.

Russian forces on Tuesday (February 28) pressed forward their weeks-long drive to encircle and capture Bakhmut where the commander of Ukraine's ground forces described the situation as "extremely tense."

The Russian troops, including mercenary fighters from the Wagner Group, are trying to cut the Ukrainian defenders' supply lines to the city, the scene of some of the war's bloodiest battles, and force them to surrender or withdraw.
