Today I pay tribute to one of the most powerful and historic reggae songs to come out of the Pacific — “Political War” by the legendary Fijian reggae band Rootstrata. More than just music, this song reflects a painful chapter in Fiji’s political history and the human cost of division, conflict, and struggle.

Originally associated with the turbulent events surrounding the 1987 coup era and the Taukei Movement, “Political War” became a voice for victims, unity, reflection, and the hope for peace among our people. Rootstrata, led by the legendary Fesaitu, helped shape the sound and soul of island reggae across Fiji and the Pacific.

This cover is my way of honouring the legacy, message, and musical influence of Rootstrata while adding my own vocal style, guitar work, and arrangement through Kunau Vibes.
