Paperwork! We knew there'd eventually be paperwork!
A link in the comments to this reel has all the government’s into on:
Who can get married
How to get a marriage licence
Applying for a marriage licence online
If you’ve previously been divorced inside or outside of Canada
How to change your last name after marriage
and more
Your Marriage license will come in a large, brown, manila envelope and will contain:
Your Marriage License
What’s called the Record of Solemnization, and a bit more.
Bring the whole envelope and everything in it to the ceremony, because you can’t be married without it!
There’s a link in the comments that’ll take you right to all the official info.
Copy-paste this URL to find all the necessary legal stuff straight from the government: https://www.ontario.ca/page/getting-m...
After your ceremony, I’ll send the completed Marriage License to the Registrar General so that they can register your marriage.
Eight weeks later, you can reach out to them to get a copy.
I’ll post THAT link in the comments, too.
Copy-paste this: https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-get-c...
In the meantime, right after your ceremony, I’ll hand you your completed Record of Solemnization.
While this isn’t equivalent to the Marriage Certificate, it may be sufficient for certain activities with places like your bank or insurance. Only they can tell you what works for them.
So, there you go!
Your Marriage License is your license to get married within 90 days.
Your Record of Solemnization is like a “receipt” of your marriage that might help with some processes until your Marriage Certificate arrives.
Your Marriage Certificate is your full, legal proof.
