This Is My Offering” is a gospel-driven reinterpretation of a classical Japanese poem from the Hyakunin Isshu, written by Sugawara no Michizane.
The original poem, Konotabiwa, was composed before a departure. In it, the poet humbly apologizes for not being able to prepare a formal offering (nusa) for the gods and instead presents the autumn leaves — nature’s own brocade — as a sacred tribute. It is a poem of reverence, gratitude, and surrender.
In this modern English adaptation, that quiet act of devotion becomes a bold spiritual declaration.
Rather than offering autumn leaves, the song proclaims something far more personal:
“This is my offering.”
Not an object.
Not a ritual.
But the self.
Musically, the track leans into the energy of contemporary Black church gospel — driving rhythm, layered harmonies, call-and-response intensity, and a chorus that builds into full-bodied praise. The arrangement moves from reflective restraint to explosive affirmation, mirroring the emotional journey from hesitation to conviction.
The spirit of the original poem — humility before something greater — remains at the core. But here, it rises into celebration. The offering is no longer symbolic; it is lived. It is sung. It is declared.
This song stands at the intersection of classical Japanese poetry and modern gospel fire — where tradition meets testimony.
It is a farewell.
It is a vow.
It is surrender turned into strength.
This is my offering.
