Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) says time for investigations into the purchase of the Amaryllis Hotel by the Public Service Pension Trust Fund (PSPTF) is over, requesting relevant bodies to act.
CDEDI's executive director Sylvester Namiwa made the call this afternoon during a press briefing in Lilongwe, where he commended the Public Accounts Committe (PAC) of parliament for engaging stakeholders through inquiries which have exposed loopholes in the the deal.
"It does not need an Ivy league university graduate to do an analysis that Malawians have unequivocally said no to this petty thieving of escalating the price from K48 billion in 2023 to K128 billion in 2026." Said Namiwa.
He added that fiscal and criminal institutions in the country, RBM has voters' mandate to follow the money, by following all the transactions that led to the payment of the K90 billion to the management of the hotel.
Meanwhile has given the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), Malawi Police Service (MPS) through the Fiscal Police and the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) 48 hours to use constitutional powers to immediately recover what it calls the "lost" money.
