Le 7 juin 2014 à 12h30, Géraldine Fasnacht ouvre le sommet du Cervin en wingsuit accompagnée de son ami Julien Meyer.

Il s'agit d'une première mondiale, réalisée dans des circonstances particulières. L'arête Hörnli était encore couverte de beaucoup de neige, rendant l'ascension ardue. D'autant plus que les aventuriers portaient sur le dos des sacs de plus de 12 kg, contenant leurs wingsuits, leurs parachutes et tous leur matériel de montagne. La cabane Hörnli, d'ordinaire refuge, était en réfection cette année-là, les forçant à dormir sous tente pour se lever au milieu de la nuit afin d'escalader cette montagne mythique, emblème de la Suisse : le Cervin.

Géraldine et Julien étaient accompagnés des guides valaisans de Verbier Claude-Alain Gailland et Hervé Gresch, car ils n'étaient pas totalement convaincus qu'un éventuel point de départ puisse être trouvé pour décoller et ils voulaient être certains de pouvoir redescendre en toute sécurité.

Géraldine rêvait de ce vol depuis plus de 5 ans. En 2009, elle avait grimpé jusqu'au sommet de la face Est du Cervin pour descendre en snowboard cette pente raide de 55°. Ce jour-là, elle avait remarqué que le nez du Cervin, en sa déclivité, ouvrait une opportunité sans pareille. Les avancées technologiques en matière de finesse et de départs plus performants des nouvelles wingsuits lui avaient insufflé l'espoir de réaliser son rêve ultime !

On June 7, 2014, at 12:30 p.m., Géraldine Fasnacht opened the summit of the Matterhorn in wingsuit, accompanied by her friend Julien Meyer.

It was a world first, accomplished under unique circumstances. The Hörnli ridge was still adorned with copious amounts of snow, making the ascent challenging. To add to the difficulty, the adventurers carried backpacks weighing over 12 kilograms, containing their wingsuits, parachutes, and all their mountaineering equipment. The Hörnli hut, the usual refuge, was undergoing renovations that year, forcing them to sleep in tents. They rose in the middle of the night, driven by the desire to climb this legendary mountain, the symbol of Switzerland: the Matterhorn.

Géraldine and Julien were accompanied by the Wallis guides from Verbier, Claude-Alain Gailland and Hervé Gresch, as they were not entirely convinced that a suitable departure point could be found, and they wanted to ensure a safe descent.

Géraldine had dreamt of this flight for over five years. In 2009, she had climbed to the summit of the East face of the Matterhorn to descend its steep 55-degree slope on her snowboard. It was on that day that she noticed the unique opportunity presented by the overhanging nose of the Matterhorn. The advancements in wingsuit technology, with greater finesse and improved takeoff capabilities, had instilled in her the hope of fulfilling her ultimate dream!
