In this real courtroom hearing, Judge Stephanie Boyd takes a plea from Alyssa Gonzales in case 2025CR000487 for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony with a range of 180 days to 2 years in a state jail facility and up to a $10,000 fine. Gonzales enters a no contest plea on Count Two, confirms she understands her rights, the indictment, and the written admonishments, and agrees to a plea bargain for 1 year in state jail, a $2,000 fine, and $800 restitution to Orlando Pedes, with another case 2025CR000472 taken into consideration.
Her lawyer tells the court she’s been doing MRT (Moral Reconation Therapy) in jail and asks that she be eligible for diligent participation credit (80/20 rule) and allowed to continue classes, vocation, and substance-use treatment at state jail. Judge Boyd instead focuses on her choices: at 32 years old, driving a car with a broken ignition and damaged steering column, still “just riding around in it,” and blaming the crowd she was hanging with. The judge asks why a grown adult needs a class to know stealing a car is wrong, then learns she has two sons, ages 13 and 11, doesn’t care for either, and doesn’t pay child support — telling her that if her kids had to depend on her to survive, “they would not survive” because she’s “just out here stealing vehicles.”
Judge Boyd finds her guilty, sentences her to 1 year in the state jail facility, gives credit for time served, imposes the $2,000 fine, orders $800 restitution, and recommends a therapeutic community program in state jail. She also issues the standard warning that as a felon, Gonzales cannot own or possess any weapons or ammunition, and off the record tells her she needs to “do better” because someone else is raising her children and she shouldn’t need MRT to realize that committing crimes means someone else is taking care of her kids.
