Sasthamcotta Lake or Sasthamkotta Lake, categorized as a wetland, the largest fresh water lake in Kerala, India meets the drinking water needs of more than half million people of the Quilon(Kollam) district. The lake is a designated wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention since November 2002. The lake is under threat due to vast consumption of drinking water, encroachment, erosion due to nearby land mining and pollution due to effluents from domestic sewage.
