The Tróia Peninsula lies south of Setúbal across the Sado Estuary west of the historic town of Alcácer do Sal.
The peninsula is a 21 km-long spit of sand and pine woods with excellent beaches on the Atlantic Ocean side. It stretches all the way down to the trendy resort of Comporta.
Tróia is around 50 km south of Lisbon and is best reached by train and then ferry from Setúbal. Tróia gets very busy in the summer, especially at weekends and there may be queues for both the car and foot passenger ferries (the catamaran) from Setúbal.
