Native Hope asked students from St. Joseph's Indian School to
participate in a Rock Your Mocs for Native American Heritage Month.
“We want to celebrate our students’ heritage and culture in everything we do.
We always want our students to be proud of who they are,
and the Rock Your Mocs event is a perfect example of that.
Students get to wear their moccasins and feel connected to their ancestors,
feel connected to Uŋčí Makhá and feel connected to each other (Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ)."
Joe Tyrell, Director of Mission Integration at St. Joseph’s Indian School
Rock Your Mocs is a worldwide Native American & Indigenous Peoples
social media unity event and non-profit founded by Jessica “Jaylyn” Atsye of the Laguna Pueblo.
It’s held annually during November for National Native American Heritage Month.
Rock Your Mocs is a positive opportunity to be united and celebrate tribal individuality by wearing moccasins or a turquoise awareness ribbon.
You, too, can participate by wearing your moccasins or a turquoise awareness ribbon, snap a photo, and share your photo online with #ROCKYOURMOCS.
