The Special Investigating Unit says it has found a disturbing reality where immigration documents are sold to the highest bidder through a syndicate working with Home Affairs officials.
The SIU released an interim report into maladministration at Home Affairs on Monday following a tip off.
Acting Head of the SIU Leornard Lekgetho says payments were made to officials and later documents were issued.
He says those involved also include the spouses of officials who work at Home Affairs and that the investigation shows that the country’s borders were not protected.
