Here are five big, recurring critiques of non-duality (especially Advaita-style non-dualism):

1. *Ethical responsibility becomes blurry*
If there is ultimately no separate person, it’s hard to ground ideas like blame, praise, justice, or moral accountability in a robust way.
2. *Risk of moral nihilism or spiritual bypassing*
“There are no others” and “everything is Brahman” can be misused to downplay harm, justify abuse, or ignore injustice, leading to a collapse of practical ethics.
3. *Logical problems around illusion (Māyā)*
Critics like Rāmānuja argue that calling the world “neither real nor unreal” is incoherent; if Māyā is indefinable, its status and operation become logically untenable.
4. *Reductionism that flattens lived experience*
Reducing all distinctions to “One consciousness” can be seen as philosophically reductionist, glossing over real diversity, relationality, and the concrete texture of experience.
5. *Epistemic and metaphysical paradoxes*
Questions arise such as: if only non-dual consciousness is real, why does an external world appear, and how can finite individuals legitimately claim knowledge of an Absolute they supposedly transcend?
