St James's Park station was opened on 24 December 1868. The station was was rebuilt between 1927 and 1929 as part of the construction of 55 Broadway, the London Electric Railway's new headquarters which was designed by Charles Holden and featuring statues and bas relief sculpture by Sir Jacob Epstein, Eric Gill, and Henry Moore.
The building, including the station, is now a Grade I listed building. The name of the station has evolved over time and all but one of the roundels on the platforms read "St. James's Park". One, reading "St. James' Park" remains on the eastbound platform.
