Our Charleston adventure showed us dolphins, towering oak trees and we took a canoe with some gators!!
We decided our first time in Charleston wasn't long enough and there was more to see, so we headed back to do some more exploring of the charming city!
We started at Boone Hall Plantation, located in Mt. Pleasant just outside of Charleston. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds but if you're traveling without your furry companion, you will be able to do the tours we were unable to attend. Plan for about 2-3 hours to explore the grounds as there is a lot to see and learn about it's history.
Next, we made our way to King Street for some lunch and catch some filming locations from The Notebook.
The Water Taxi was one of our favorite parts of the day! You can pay for a ticket to get from one stop to another (4 stops in total) or you can get an all day pass and get off where you got on. We opted for this option, as there was a chance to see some dolphins - we didn't see any unfortunately. It's also pet friendly!
We passed Rainbow Row (which you can see in greater detail in our first Charleston Vlog) on our way to The Battery. Next up was Folly Beach which is also pet friendly (certain times of year), but the pier is not. We wanted to watch sunset, but it was too windy for Duncan and we headed back to the hotel for dinner and to rest up for day 2!!
Day 2:
We started the morning at our favorite coffee/breakfast stop when in Charleston - The Daily! Then we headed on over to Mt. Pleasant to see some new viewpoints of the Arthur J Ravenel Bridge.
We also really wanted to check out Shem Creek for a few reasons. First, because of the shrimp boats, there is a great chance of seeing dolphins! And it's also a filming location for lots of scenes in Outer Banks on Netflix! With Megan's theater/acting background we always love to check out filming locations of things we like to watch if we have the chance.
Trip 3:
We made one more trip to Charleston with Megan's sister who wanted to see all the filming locations of Outer Banks, and to stop at Cypress Gardens while we had help with babysitting for Duncan as dogs are not permitted at Cypress Gardens. It takes about 45 minutes to do the loop at Cypress Gardens on the canoes, which is a first come first served activity. Though we did not see any, there are lots of gators in the water so be sure to be cautious and never put anything in the water other than your canoe paddle. If you can't see them, that doesn't mean they aren't there. Two movies were filmed here, one is The Patriot and the second would be The Notebook! There is a lot to do at Cypress Gardens and we highly recommend spending half a day here at minimum to see all they have to offer.
We took one last trek to Shem Creek and this time we were rewarded with lots and lots of dolphins!
