017: Jay Leroy, MYP Educator - More than Skills & Drills

Описание: This week during Recess Duty we talk with Jay Leroy, an MYP Physical Education educator to share his journey in education and how he teachers more than just skills and drills. We discuss the process and journey of moving students from learning skills within physical education to learning conceptually and applying those concepts across multiple sports and activities.

Jay is an international school physical and health educator with experience spanning four countries over the past 14 years. 'Jay grew up in Ontario Canada where he was a student-athlete at the University of Western Ontario and a semi-professional lacrosse player in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League'. Trained in Australia, Jay began his teaching career in primary classrooms of East London where he quickly realized his passion for educating through the specialization of PHE.

Jay has since become an Athletic Director and Head of Department at three different international schools in East Asia. Most recently he has been focusing his professional growth on promoting conceptual inquiry in IB PHE. Jay is also a certified youth trainer and exercise therapist who uses his expertise to help staff and students alike realize their health and fitness goals.
