Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-born American singer, songwriter, actress and entrepreneur. Known as the"Queen Of Latin Pop", she is in the top 100 best-selling music artists with over 100 million albums sold worldwide, 31.5 million of those in the United States alone. She has won three Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammys, and is the most successful crossover performer in Latin music to date. Her father fought in the Bay of Pigs and died when Gloria was very young from a disease he contracted in combat. Because of this, she has always been acutely aware that Cuba is not free, and has spent most of her life advocating for a free Cuba.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
