Описание: The Battle of Carillon, also known as the Battle of Ticonderoga, took place on July 8, 1758, during the French and Indian War. It was fought near Fort Carillon (now Fort Ticonderoga) on the shores of Lake Champlain. Despite being heavily outnumbered, with only about 3,600 men, the French forces under General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm successfully defended against a much larger British force of around 15,000 troops led by General James Abercrombie. The British made a series of frontal assaults on the well-entrenched French positions, suffering heavy casualties due to tactical errors and the effective French defenses. This battle was one of the bloodiest of the war, with over 3,000 casualties, and marked a significant French victory.
