While it is true that a pressure vessel is most dangerous when it has air in the system, as air is able to be compressed which can make explosive failures more dramatic, it would be a mistake to assume that just because a swimming pool is a hydraulic system that there is no danger. Pool filters can and do explode. They can explode when operational pressures exceed the normal maximum pressures of 30 psi. This is especially true for older filter tanks, filter tanks with damage, filter tanks with attempted repairs or split flange filter tanks as quite often they are not put together correctly.
