How's it going, everyone It's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install these Titan Chain V-Bar Snow Tire Chains on our 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. These chains are ladder pattern, which means that they go straight across the tire. Not gonna give you as much coverage or smooth a ride as say a diamond pattern chain. But if you're getting a chain that is as aggressive as these, you're not gonna be super worried about bumpiness, and they're gonna do a great job of getting you that traction, and starting and stopping. The chains themselves, have these twisted links as you can see, they basically, just wrap around one another which is gonna do a great job of getting you that traction in snow and ice.
Additionally, you can see these V-bars that go across the links as well, which additionally gets you more traction and break up that ice, and gets you a really solid grip. The chains themselves, are composed of a low-carbon steel, which is probably the best-case scenario for these types of chains because these are each breaking points, and a higher, or harder steel or metal might break off in the colder conditions, but low-carbon steel is gonna give these just a little bit of flex to make sure that they're not breaking off. The chains do come two to a set in this canvas bag, it's pretty lightweight, and honestly, as you can see in the side, it's already starting to rip here 'cause I'm assuming one of the V-bars poked through. So if you do want to get these chains, we definitely recommend grabbing some sort of plastic tote to keep them in, to keep the chains safe and keep the weather out. But overall, installation of these chains is pretty straightforward.
You can go ahead and check out how we did that now. To start the installation process, the first thing we want to do is lay our chains up nice and flat, make sure there's no tangles, or kinks, or anything that's stuck together. with these V-bars, that tends to happen. Also, we wanna make sure that the chains are facing the right way. To do that, we wanna make sure that these ends of our chains here have this flat side facing down.
This is the side that's gonna be making contact with the tire, rather than the pointed bits on the end. It's easier to tell what these chains, 'cause these V-bars are pretty pronounced and these obviously, you don't want to be facing the tire. Additionally, we wanna make sure that this lever is gonna be accessible to us on the front after we make our connection. To make your life a little bit easier, we recommend trying to center the chains as much as you can, and then we can start the process by just grabbing towards the back here, and draping our chains over our tires, trying to spread them out as evenly as possible before we make our first connection in the back. This connection is pretty straightforward.
There's this hook here. We'll go for the third link in our case. Ah, let's go with the second one. We can always come back and adjust this once we figure out how much room we're gonna have in the front. Onto the front now, we'll go for the second link here. Mm, that's probably not gonna be enough, we'll try to get to the third. We just want to get as much slack out of our chains as we can. So look for the third link here. Tilt this lever arm backwards and it will hook into this loose link on the chains on the left side. Once we've made this connection here, we recommend finding one of these rubber tensioners or getting them here at etrailer just to get any leftover tension out. And as we're moving along, we wanna make sure that as things loosen up, we have the ability for the base to remain tight. So this rubber tensioner is just a good way to do that. Moving it in the same pattern as you would take on, or take your tire off or put on, just a star pattern to make sure that it's evenly distributed. Once you've got that, you're pretty much ready to go. Install it on the passenger side as well. Roll forward or backwards once or twice, to make sure that things are where you want them to be, and you're ready to hit the road. Overall, I think the Titan Chains Snow Tire Chains are pretty aggressive, but I think they'll get the job done for what you need them for. They're not gonna be your multiple-use tire chains, but in pretty severe and inclement weather, snow and ice, they'll do a great job. Like I sa
