The Italian motorcycle manufacturers were not paying attention to what the Japanese were developing during the 1970's and were resting on their laurels. This meant that their successes and sales dropped over this period and then gladly realized in the later 80's that they had to come up with new and fresh technology to capture the markets attention again.
Enter the Ducati 851 for example and this the Moto Guzzi revolution, the Daytona 1000. Now for those that don't remember nor recognize Moto Guzzi as a brand with racers or superbikes, then I will point out here that they were the first motorcycle manufacturer to use wind tunnels in development and gave us the iconic 500cc V8 Grand Prix racer back in 1955. So this Moto Guzzi Daytona 1000 is a magical blend of the Guzzi tradition and heritage, using their traditional transverse V motor as well as shaft drive, yet revolutionising them to cutting edge tech back in the day.
