নীরব মোদী-মেহুল চোক্সী প্রতারণা-কাণ্ডে পঞ্জাব ন্যাশনাল ব্যাংকের (পিএনবি) ক্ষতির অঙ্কে যোগ হয়েছিল প্রায় ১৩,০০০ কোটি টাকা। তার আগে রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত ব্যাংকগুলির প্রায় ৯,০০০ কোটি টাকা পাওনা বাকি রেখে গোপনে দেশ ছেড়েছিলেন বিজয় মাল্য। নরেন্দ্র মোদীর জমানায় ওই দুই ঘটনায় তোলপাড় হয়েছিল ভারত। দেশটির রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গনেও এনিয়ে বেশ বিতর্ক হয়েছিল।

কিন্তু তার পরেও ভারতে রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত ব্যাংকগুলি জালিয়াতি খুব একটা আটকাতে সম্ভব হচ্ছে না। দেশটির রিজার্ভ ব্যাংক বা আরবিআই এর সাম্প্রতিক এক প্রতিবেদনে বিষয়টি স্পষ্ট হয়েছে।

সেই প্রতিবেদনের পরিসংখ্যান বলছে, গত সাত বছরে দৈনিক অন্তত ১০০ কোটি টাকা জালিয়াতির শিকার হচ্ছে রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত ব্যাংকগুলি।
