Ram Temple Donation Theft Probe: SIT Finds 70 Alleged Theft Incidents in 42 Days, Eight Arrested

According to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), evidence suggests that 70 instances of theft occurred within just 42 days, between April 27 and June 5. Investigators reportedly uncovered crucial evidence after examining CCTV footage, donation-counting records, and internal audit documents, raising serious concerns over the temple's cash handling and monitoring systems.

Based on the findings, eight individuals have been arrested and booked under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to theft, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy. Those arrested include Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav, Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Lavkush Mishra, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, and Manish Yadav. The SIT also reported significant shortcomings in CCTV coverage, donation counting procedures, record maintenance, and internal oversight.

The case has also led to administrative repercussions. Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra resigned, citing moral responsibility. While the investigation is still underway and legal proceedings will determine individual culpability, the revelations have sparked a nationwide debate on transparency, accountability, and the management of donations at one of India's most significant religious institutions.
